Brown's return goes smoothly, Rozier drops 33 points in Celtics win over Kings

Against Oklahoma City last week, Jayson Tatum led the way for Boston with 23 points.

At Portland on Friday night, it was Marcus Morris dropping 30 points for the Green Team and on Sunday, it was Terry Rozier’s turn as he finished with a career-high 33 points in Boston’s 104-93 win over Sacramento.

Three games, all Celtics wins, all coming about with a different leading scorer.

Having that kind of depth speaks to why the Celtics (50-23), despite having some major injuries to contend with, are still viewed as a formidable foe in the Eastern Conference playoff race that will begin in earnest in a few weeks.

“Without Marcus (Morris), we were going to need other guys to score,” said Celtics head coach Brad Stevens, referring to Morris being out with a right ankle sprain. “That’s just the way it goes. Those shots are going to come from somewhere. It’s just a matter of knocking them down.”

And the Celtics did just that, shooting an impressive 55.6 percent from the field and 55.6 percent (12-for-22) from 3-point range.

2025 NBA mock draft roundup: Celtics predictions for first round

Sunday’s victory serves as yet another reminder that regardless of who is in or out of the Celtics lineup, they are going to be a tough team to beat.

“We’re going to go to war with whoever we got,” Boston’s Terry Rozier told NBC Sports Boston’s Abby Chin following the win. “It’s no excuses. We gotta make things happen no matter who’s hurt, no matter who is out there.”

Here are the Stars, Studs and Duds from Boston’s 104-93 win over the Sacramento Kings.

STARS

Terry Rozier: Once again, Terry Rozier was far and away the best player on the floor. Rozier had a career-high 33 points to go with five rebounds and three assists.

STUDS

Jaylen Brown: Returning to the floor after missing six straight following a concussion on March 8 at Minnesota. He definitely had a bit of rust, but Brown was still delivering an impactful game at both ends of the floor as he finished with 19 points in just 25 minutes.

Buddy Hield: Coming off the bench, Buddy Hield led all Sacramento players with 21 points on 8-for-16 shooting along wit six rebounds and three steals.

DUDS

Bogdan Bogdanovic: He has had a really solid rookie season, but the Celtics’ defense made him a non-factor. He tallied just four points on 2-for-10 shooting while missing all five of his 3-point attempts. He also finished with a team-worst plus/minus of -16.
