Amari Cooper formally ruled out vs Giants, key corner may return for Raiders

ALAMEDA – Raiders receiver Amari Cooper didn’t practice all week. Zero surprise he won’t play Sunday against the New York Giants.

Cooper was formally ruled out Friday with concussion-like symptoms and an ankle injury. Those injuries where suffered on the same play, a violent collision with Denver free safety Darian Stewart that knocked him unconscious.

It’s uncertain whether he’ll be able to return for a Dec. 10 clash at Kansas City.

The Raiders will play the Giants without their top receivers. Cooper is out with injury and Michael Crabtree is suspended without pay for involvement in a brawl with the Denver Broncos.

The receiver corps is down a few men. The cornerbacks should get a an important one back.

David Amerson practiced on a limited basis all week, and seems primed for a return against the Giants. Head coach Jack Del Rio would guarantee the cover man would play for the first time since suffering a foot injury in Week 7. He’s formally considered questionable. If he can return, he should primarily play the position with TJ Carrie and Sean Smith. Dexter McDonald would lose some snaps.

Linebacker Cory James (knee) and receiver Cordarrelle Patterson (hip) were also considered questionable.
