Why would the Marlins want to part ways with the National League MVP who just turned 28 years old? Look right at Giancarlo Stanton's historic contract and there's your answer.
Stanton signed the largest contract in Major League Baseball history three years ago at 13 years and $325 million. There are still 10 years and $295 million left on the deal.
And, the Giants are reportedly ready to open their wallets and then some for Stanton. San Francisco's front office is willing to take on Stanton's entire monster of a contract to acquire the superstar in a trade, according to Craig Mish of SiriusXM Radio.

Stanton belted a league-leading 59 home runs in 2017 to go along with a .281/.376/.631 slash line and 132 RBI. The four-time All-Star hit nearly half as many home runs by himself in 2017 as the Giants did as a team (128).
While Stanton's contract runs through 2027, he also has an opt-out clause after the 2020 season.
