Krukow: Giants have been patient with Kyle Crick, ‘he just hasn’t responded’

The Giants selected Kyle Crick in the first round (49th overall) of the 2011 draft.

Over 23 starts at Double-A Richmond last year, Crick went 4-11 with a 5.94 ERA

"He has push in his delivery, and push and shove in delivery is inconsistency of release point," Mike Krukow explained on KNBR 680. "And that's gonna cause you to struggle in the strike zone. When he misses, he usually misses up because of the shove. And he's got to fix that. He's gotta get a better set of mechanics that allows him to crack the whip when you get to that release point and not push when you get to that release point.

"And the other thing, too, about a guy who shoves or pushes, is he shows you the ball early. So even if he's throwing hard, you're gonna see it. They're trying to be patient with him and he just hasn't responded."

Crick was recently optioned to minor league camp.

He put up solid numbers during Cactus League games -- one earned run over seven innings, six hits, three walks and six strikeouts.

But according to Krukow: "He's not ready for the big leagues; he cannot find the strike zone. And if you cannot find the strike zone, you cannot be apart of a big league bullpen or a starting rotation. You can't. You have to have command.
